Jacqui is the owner of Pilates by Jacqui and has been teaching Pilates since 2007. She is a STOTT PILATES® mat certified instructor and is STOTT PILATES Reformer trained, and CCB (Cadillac, Stability Chair, Barrels) trained. She is also a certified SA Callanetics instructor. She teaches private sessions and small group classes.
Jacqui discovered STOTT PILATES about 10 years ago and found that it helped reverse the effects caused by working in the corporate environment for prolonged periods, it helped her to de-stress and manage back and hip pain.
Jacqui is passionate about how Pilates can be used to rehabilitate the body from the cumulative effect of spending many hours in static positions like - behind a desk, a computer, in a car. Pilates also helps rehabilitate musculoskeletal defects caused by incorrect exercise techniques, a sedentary lifestyle, and numerous other habitual movement patterns. Over time these habits reduce our ability to move correctly and subsequently cause discomfort. The most impacted part of the body is the spine. Having tried other Pilates methods, Jacqui found STOTT PILATES to be the most effective way to overcome these poor postural habits and movement patterns. STOTT PILATES truly makes the spine more flexible.
Further studies, in 2007, with the Human Movement Studies department at University of the Witwatersrand made her more aware of the impact of exercise on the adolescent, and on the adult as they age.
Jacqui has been working on the Pilates Reformer for the past two and a half years, and has found that the Reformer repertoire greatly improved her core connection and flexibility, so much so that there has been a profound improvement in her network.
Her other interest is wellness - promoting a healthier lifestyle and the use of unrefined foods in ones diet.
Just wanted to drop you a line to say how much I miss your pilates classes. I have joined a class here in Salt Rock but it is nothing like your classes. I am very, very glad that it was your pilates that I joined, you are an exceptional teacher, your students are so lucky to have you, keep doing what you are doing and thank you so much for teaching the right way to do pilates. - Anne P., Salt Rock KZN
Thank you for all your help this year and for your great patience with me. I feel a lot better than I did when I started and appreciate every less painful day that I am experiencing because of your hard work.- Lindsay P. (Non-practicing Physiotherapist), Weltevreden Park.
Favourite quote by Joseph Pilates, letter to clients, 1939 –
If your spine is inflexibly stiff at 30, you are old; if it’s completely flexible at 60, you are young … the only real guide to your true age lies not in years, or how old you THINK you feel, but … by the degree of natural and normal flexibility enjoyed by your spine throughout life.
